An interesting evolution of cyber-warfare.
I can recommend a really good book that covers the subject area of information warfare and that is by Dorothy E. Denning, I read it whilst doing my MSc Information Security. It does cover a little bit to much from the ‘American’ viewpoint, but I enjoyed the book; both as a book to read from cover to cover, and definitely for studies in any type of Computer Science discipline.

Identity Crisis – bedtime reading
I would like to recommend a book to read if you are interested in the area of identity and the need for identification in our everyday lives. It is by Jim Harper. I read it when it was first published last year, and still today I am thinking about what he wrote, and how it changed some of my thinking in this area.
UK’s approach to child safety
This report from March 2006 gives an interesting insight to UK’s approach to child safety. What is evident is that the collection of personal and often sensitive information on children is widespread, and all done in the name of ‘child safety/well-being’. This information is being collected and linked into one master children’s database.
You need to read this report (Children’s Databases – safety and privacy) and take a visit to the website Action Rights for Children (ARCH) in order to fully appreciate what this means. You then need to link this up with the surge on the use of surveillance and tracking technologies in the UK to start becoming just a little bit concerned…… or at least i would be if I lived there!
Dilemmas of Privacy and Surveillance
A great report from The Royal Academy of Engineering published March 2007, a MUST read! It covers so beautifully the challenges we face for the future as regards to our personal privacy.
Identity Linkage and Privacy
I’ve published an article in ISSA (April 2007). If you are not a member of ISSA and want an electronic copy -of just my article- leave a comment on this posting.
In the article I’ve discussed the problem of privacy as regards to each of us as individuals. Particularly as today we are posting publicly personal information on ourselves our friends, family, etc. I’ve tried to formalize this problem by introducing a model that depicts how information residue that we leave out on the Internet can at some time have an impact on our reputation in the physical world. I’ve called this problem the ‘identity linkage continuum’.
It’s just a start, maybe there is some research being done in this area. Would be interesting to know…..
A Report on the Surveillance Society
Check out this interesting report I found on Bob Blakely’s blog. This report was prepared for the Information Commissioner of the United Kingdom.
