I would say that they could be intercepting and storing the traffic using some network analyzer. After all most online email is in clear text when sent over the network. No password needed for this.
Interesting. One wonders how they were able to access the emails anyhow? It specifically mentions that she did not store her password on the laptop, so I assume that that rules out any browser stored passwords. Was she storing saved files of her email traffic perhaps?
