Check out Google’s new privacy controls!

Looks as though Google is taking a significant initiative in enabling transparency in what they are collecting on you and how it is used. Check out this for the full article.

“It has created a window into part of its database, so users can see that Google has deduced that they are interested in “Anime & Manga” comics, or “Alternative-Punk-Metal” music or travel to Afghanistan. (Yes, those are on its list of 600 interest categories.)

It also built technology to allow your browser to remember that you don’t want Google (or its DoubleClick unit) to remember anything about you. It is more robust than the opt-out system used by many companies that rely on cookies in browsers. These are technical feats that other ad companies said would be too hard.”

blogging award?

Hi readers, I received an email that I’ve been nominated for a blogging award in IT security section for Computer Weekly. I am not sure that this is a genuine email, although clearly the awards exist. I am a little reluctant to download the bloggin awards logo onto my blog until I am sure it is not a hoax. Does anyone know where the list of those nominated for this award can be found?

A daughter!

I know that this blog has not seen any activity for a couple of months. Now I am back after the birth of my baby daughter Ivy Nina Öqvist on 25th September 2009 🙂

It was difficult coping with my last weeks at work before taking some paternity leave, my MBA studies and first year exam, publications and my blog as I was not really well. And I wasn’t ready to share the knowledge publicily that I was expecting this little princess until it was real.

Ivy arrived almost 4 weeks early due to pregnancy coplications. However I am now on the mend and the mother to the most beautiful heathy daughter 🙂

Ivy has not really shown much interest in computers yet, focus has ben food and sleep 🙂
