I think these sort of games should be censored as unsuitable for children. Can we ban these type of games outright?
Yes I think so based upon my experience in SL. I would say that some gamers that get involved in these type of ‘role-playing’ games can start to lose some distinction between what is, or what is not real…. scary to say the least! What do you think?
What great news. I heard this on the radio this morning… in Swedish.. and wondered if I really had understood it right. It seemed too good to be true. But it is true and HURRAY!
This move really sends a message for information communities in the future. It also sets the scene for safer social networking for our kids! HURRAY for a new and safer Information Age!!!
I have been seeing more and more the use of the Truste privacy seal. Yahoo/Flickr for example refer to this in their privacy statement. They are still collecting PII and using it for research, but they do not sell it. Of course it still doesn’t prevent them from using our PII to create profiles, strip our information of PII and attach these profiles instead. Well we can’t have everything….
The TRUSTe seal means that the company whose Web site we are visiting takes our privacy seriously. They monitor the compliance of member businesses, provide an arena for us to file privacy violation complaints, and make sure these complaints are heard.
I like this. Not perfect, but something that we can all understand. So check out for the Truste seal before sharing your personal information. It’s better than nothing…..

It is the first time I’ve read their newsletter which itself looks pretty good. (Apart from the fact my article with my photo is on the front page :-)) It is full of latest information on legislation concerning privacy… and not just in the US but in the copy I had, for Australia, Canada, EU, France, Spain, UK and Australia. I expected it to be US bias but it was in fact not.
IAPP are worth considering for membership if you are pursuing a career in the area of privacy -if you have not done so already.

You know I’m always thinking, talking and writing about digitally stored information residue (I know I’m a bit sad) that is located somewhere by someone or something; that we don’t want to be found… however what about pulling together that information that we want found?
Hence if someone Googles you, the right information is returned in the search. Very useful if you are changing jobs. I found 2 companies that offer this service: ZoomInfo and Spoke. I haven’t looked much at Spoke, but Zoominfo even pulls newspaper articles with your name in, not the whole article just the part that refers to you. You are then able to ‘claim’ this to your identity. They use your credit card to verify your identity. Which is fine if nobody is posing as you and has your card details……
If you are lucky and have the misfortune to have some ‘not so complimentary’ digital information residue stored somewhere out there, maybe whoever Googled you will not bother to look any further 😉
Google’s announcement that it will set web-browser cookies to expire two years after final use, rather than in 2038 as at present, suggests the largest search engine is aiming to present itself as a friend of privacy …. lol
