Lauren is quite well known in the privacy world, although I have only just come across him myself, which is pretty surprising considering how long I have been around in this space. I have heard his name sometime but never checked him out before, which was a pity. This is an interesting informal talk he made at Google. His blog is very interesting reading!

My paper on ‘Identity and Privacy -in the Information Age’ has been accepted at this conference. So I will be speaking there on the 1st or 2nd August. If any of my blog readers are there please drop a note!
Been a bit quiet here lately?
Hi blog readers, sorry that it has been a bit quiet over the last couple of weeks. However i am back posting again. I have 2 speaking engagements coming up soon, one on the 11 July in London and the other beginning of August in Tampere, Finland. More about that later…..
Surveillence cameras in Swedish schools
Listening on Swedish radio this morning heard that one school is looking to install surveillance cameras to help them deal with a problem of older pupils demanding money, sweets, etc., from younger pupils.
Pity that they are following the British example. What happened to communication, education as a form of prevention? I wonder what next….
DHS and Real ID
More discussions in the US on the Real ID program. Bruce Schneier give comprehensive overview of the issues.
HP Blogging Code of Conduct
HP has published a Blogging Code of Conduct. This is a really good idea! Means that as a HP employee I can state that this is the code of conduct that I follow. In fact my blog is linked into the HP Blogs website. Find me under the Security and Privacy category.
Cyberwar and Information war
Bruce Schneier gives a good definition on what is cyberwar -in his opinion- and information war. As he right states, they are not the same. This is not the focus of what he has written, so hang in there until you get to the end. It is worth reading. I am not completely in agreement with how seriously he views these threats, I see them as much higher because of combined impact of cyberwar AND information war.
Then think about information war today. YouTube is being used for example -as an extension to existing media- to influence public opinion.
Common sense security tactics…..
Some very good advice from Bruce Schneier! Read this even if you are not technical. There is some original thoughts for all of us.
Sci-fi writers join war on terror
Fun fun, take a look at what the US DHS is upto (article)! I am wondering now, if they influence how the DHS thinks, does this mean that what the sci-fi writers write about today is more likely to happen in the future?
